Two quite quiver?

Postby Delta99 » Sat Feb 16, 2019 11:28 pm

I'm 100 kg/220 lbs we have typically 6-10 knots, more seldom 10-20. 25-30 very unusual. I would not go out in 30 knots anyway.

What should my two kite quiver look like? One of the positions are semi-locked for a Duotone Mono 13. I have a 9 Best Roca I never use. What should this 2 quiver kite quiver be?

I would say 14m and 10m, in a flat kite design. Maybe a 10m and 14m Naish Pivot or similar ?

You can forget about 6-10 but maybe 1 kite and two types of boards . A 15m light weight foil kite and a hydro foil for 10- 15 then the same kite with a TT from 12 -25 .

What board(s) do you ride ?

If you get a lot of 6 - 10 knots, I'd say a hydrofoil board would be the ticket.

Thanks everyone!
Currently I ride a very standard Xenon Rayo TT 145*44 cirka and a Ozone Zephyr 17 sqm, a Best Roca 12 sqm and a Best Roca 9 sqm (plus a bunch of air ram foils for ice and snow). I never use the Roca 9. This was my beginner quiver but now I wanted to clean it up a bit and perhaps reduce to one brand and one bar. For convenience and weight.

I'm getting into hydrofoiling with some slingshot wings and a beginner board. Plus I have a NKB Nugget strapless to help me learn the footwork in transations before I even try it on the foil.

The Zephyr is quite nice, very usefull. But the Roca 12 is also good but overlaps a large part of the Zephyr range. I think I will replace the Bests with a single strut around 13 sqm for hydrofoiling and a 10 sqm tri-strut for regular TT and surfboard. Keeping the Zephyr, but I don't know why. HaHa just feels safe to have it. A secure sturdy Plan B kite before I know more about how a large singlestrut handle.

When I said 17m I had a Zephyr in mind. You already have one so keep it. 8)

Do you not have strong frontal wind in the spring & fall seasons?

Although where I am - Canada/Great Lakes - it is not "consistently windy", we normally get many windy days over the course of a year (most of them in the the fall) & I (80 kg) get many sessions on 7m & 5m kites. If you weigh 100 kg I don't see any reason why you wouldn't go out in 30 kts - the 9m Roca would be an appropriate kite for you in 25 - 30 kts. I'm not sure why you feel the need to restrict to 2 kites? I think to cover a wide wind range you really need 3 kites.

I used to be 100kg an Airush Ultra 15m works well for me from 6 knots to 15 on a low aspect foil and then I can use it up to 20 knots with a twintip. If you don't want to foil you will need a huge door and a huge kite like a 21m Flysurfer. It's way more fun with the foil! I also have Roca 9m awesome kite for 25 to 35 knots at your weight. A good 12m would work from 15 to 25 on a twintip.

12-15m foil kite + 8-10m tube kite.

I have a 15m R1V2 and a 9m Cabrinha Velocity, I can ride the 9m up to 30 knots with my hydrofoil and the 15m down to about as low as I want to ride in waves and current (8-10 knots). They cross over around 12-14 knots which would be perfect for a 2 kite quiver if you had 2 bars and a set of line extensions.
