Onboard air compressor...

Postby TheJoe » Sat Mar 02, 2019 6:50 pm

Anyone else out there using an onboard air compressor? I'm just curious what size tanks people are using. I have a 20gal tank on my truck. I just bought a Sprinter van but I want to down size the tank so I can fit a water tank and air tank under the van. Just wondering what size tanks others are using and how well they work being less volume.

Electric pump? Why take up space with compressed air?

12v compressor same as in my truck. Tank wont take up room because I'm going to mount it under the van. The 20gal tank I have would fit barely but that spot is where my water tank will go for the shower and most likely an outside sprayer for washing down equipment. Not too mention having an air tank lets me inflate tires, and use an impact wrench for dealing with flats.

This is the system I use https://kitehouseinstruction.wordpress. ... /08/02/74/
hornblaters.com has all the components
https://hornblasters.com/collections/ai ... stant-duty
I recommend setting up two of them since at least 7 cfm will get the job done quickly with no wait time. They have 5 gallon tanks and they have drains on them. I recommend one or two water separators between the compressors and the tank, that hot air makes a lot of water.

Those are nice but a little too pricey. I ordered 2 Viair 400c for 1/3rd of the price and only half of the performance. It's whats in my truck and went 7 years before having to be rebuilt. I'm going to use some copper tubing to make a cooling coil before my water trap just to help out on the condensate.
