That horizon leveling is incredible!
No wonder that Revl got out of business.

Makes the footage perfect 👍🏻

these days the graphics chips and particularly, well written drivers and software, make a big difference for editing 4k

apple are very good at this - even the entry 13"mac pros (dont my a macbook tho!) . Processor speeds have not gone up so much in the last few years as they did due the limitation of the max speed of electrons.

for simple lofi editing on your phone "quik" is amazingly good and free (gopro make it)

4k can be good for zooming/cropping to 1080 - used to be that digital zoom is useless - not any more.

i wish there was a 3x zoom waterproof action cam without a fish eye - otherwise makes 10ft waves look 4 ft and 4ft waves 10ft when filmed close enough

True, render or crop video to 1080 as also the best Youtube format (still), and you can really benefit from the higher resolution so much better quality overall.

And that was exactly my point too, a small up to 3 x optical zoom cam linear view is what is missing now, the development has stopped fully the last many years :(

I am curious about the Insta 360x cam. I just saw a really awesome snowboard clip on Youtube shot on the Insta. I could see some kite applications there too.
I have the insta 360 one (previous generation so limited feedback I know) and the main problem with that one is getting the case to map properly. I have done about 5 calibration sessions and it still doesn't seem to stitch as well as without the case. I know the 360 one X has a different case but its still the same old problems you get with non waterproof devices (fogging, leaks etc)

Otherwise its great if you don't mind a little more editing time afterwards (I think not flattening the video is a bit of a waste as its just random footage then)

Wow I just watched the product video on that cam... pretty impressive but 5.7K!
What do people use to edit with? I tried to edit 4k with my Lenovo Laptop... intel Xeon 3.ghz and 16 gig of Ram with a Quadro M2200 and it was painfully glitchy and slow... so much so I now shoot at 1080...

Wow, your machine hiccuped with 16g of ram? Processor overclocked probably.

Yeah I hear ya. 4k is sooooo nice played on a 65" OLED tv, but it involves a whole new rig of hardware and storage to deal with editing it. I'm due for a new laptop this year, (my Lenovo is ready to retire) and I don't have a clue what to buy. I know some of the hopped up Ram Dell XPS, Lenovo X1 Carbon/Extreme, Razor and Mac Pro will do it, but they are $3k+ laptops. Do I care enough about my kiteboarding/biking footage to justify buying all that shit too when 1080p 60fps still looks pretty good. I know for about $600 I could build a desktop machine to handle 4k, I just like having the portability of the laptop. Editing on the plane ride home is a great way to burn a couple hours.
Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't 4k just increase the field of view, it doesn't provide any better resolution if you digitally zoom in ... or does it?
Yeah for the most part it's a larger size format. The resolution is better when put into the same size format.
This might explain it better.

Ugh....deal breaker there.

GoPro is finally fog free for me with the 7. What a pain in the arse that was with older generation cameras....

Yeah. Sorry about that. GoPro seem to be the only company doing waterproof action cameras without requiring an external case so the fusion might be an option (actually it seems the Garmin virb 360 is also an option) if you can find the extra cash. I'm not aware of the fusion really lacking any features (bullet time mode is a fun toy but I have seen it on other cameras so I'd be surprised if it doesn't get into the feature set at some point)

Thankfully I don't find fogging a problem in cold countries where I live but its a bummer when you go on holiday.

Trying something new after my last gopro craped out way sooner than it should of. Lots of cheap knock offs now. Just got an Akaso V50 elite. A 3rd of the price of a gopro

I have a GoPro Fusion and edit the video on a standard base model iPad. It works fine.

The 360 footage is excellent as long as you don't impose the 360 images on anybody. Just use it to extract stills and flat video clips.

Here's a still I took from a video. Not kiteboarding but you should get the idea.

I just finished my 2019 Edit after 3 weeks in Capetown. I have used mainly the Gopro Fusion (and a Gopro 7 for a few shots).
You can have an idea of the various options that the fusion give.

Those “from the bar” perspectives are fantastic! Excellent showcase for that the Fusion can offer! Probably the most refreshing, awesome new perspective I have seen.

Is the camera mounted to your bar float or on the bar end?
