Hi, I am a newbie in the kitesurfing industry and want to know more about it but I can't find specific answers on my concern. Hope this forum will help me a lot. Thanks!
1. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A NEW CHICKENLOOP?
2. REASONS WHY CHICKENLOOP BREAKS?
3. COMMON PROBLEMS/ISSUE WHEN USING AN OLD CHICKENLOOP?
1. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A NEW CHICKENLOOP?
Assuming you're Ok with its size, type of release etc, then only the fact that it's unlikely to break as far as I can see.
2. REASONS WHY CHICKENLOOP BREAKS?
Old age/wear. Usually first the plastic around the rope starts cracking, if it does, then the rope will follow quickly if you let it.
3. COMMON PROBLEMS/ISSUE WHEN USING AN OLD CHICKENLOOP?
Risk of it breaking.
If it breaks while kiting, I think being new to kitesurfing you will struggle getting back to shore. So that would be a problem. On the other hand in my experience damage is usually quite obvious, it will show signs of wear before it actually breaks. Usually the plastic cover around the rope starts breaking. So before using it, I would check it, including the release system. In some cases, the elastic holding the release gets old and loose, in which case it might open up unexpected. When it all looks OK, I would just start using it. Others might have had issues with sand getting in between the plastic cover and the rope creating invisible wear in the rope, maybe they will respond as well. I have never noticed that.
