eFoil Regulations Florida

Postby Kitemanmuc » Sat Apr 06, 2019 8:36 pm

Does anyone know if there are any regulations for eFoils in Florida? Do they need to be registered etc? Or is unregulated at the moment?

Florida the law states the following:

All vessels, with the exception of non-motor-powered vessels less than 16 feet in length, non-motor-powered canoes, kayaks, racing shells or rowing sculls, regardless of length, must be registered through your local Tax Collector’s Office

So technically an efoil ridden in Florida requires a registration. Further, if an efoil is determined to be a “personal watercraft” there are numerous additional regulations and requirements that would apply.

Personally I would look at the actually law and not what a website says. You need to know what a vessel is, because I would not describe a surfboard as a "Vessel". Also note in that thread that Federal law doesn't give the States the right to regulate wind powered vessels, though some states do... Could prove an interesting point defending kiting.

It is just another sore point in World Sailing Kite Kooks attempts to rewrite history for financial gain.

Where I live- a kitesurfer is not classed as vessel - it has always been in the same category as surfing... zero dramas.

Just another reason to hate on World Sailing and their attempt to twist things like this to suit their agenda$.

Crawl back to where you came from!

I gotta say - while it is going well... efoiling in the waves looks pretty fun. Perfect for fat waves - out the way and having fun towing your mates out into the lineup.

It was probably illegal in the land of the free , before it was even invented.. lol!

wtf does world sailing have to do with registering boats, you are reading too hard into this mate

I would think that this would be one of those things where if you were riding in the ocean, near-shore, no one would really care. But I could see you getting pulled over if you were cruising in the intracoastal or something, since it's basically a tiny motor-powered boat
