I have nothing constructive to add to this thread other than my shared hatred for all things Apple and slight interest in a smart watch for myself......but don't most guys get a Porsche or a 20 year old girlfriend for their mid life crisis?.........not a fitness tracker. j/k Taut.

I'm with you regarding Apple. I just ended up with a Samsung Galaxy watch, but haven't really explored the options with it too much yet. It did count my paddlesurfing session Saturday morning as a "Dynamic workout" and yesterday I was fooling around and pumping my foil while I was kiting...I got 10 flights of stairs for that! ;) To be fair, I haven't looked into ANY of the apps for it yet. I got it b/c I like the ability to keep up with things even when I'm on the water. And it does that really well. :thumb:

Yeah, man Samsung watch is on the list and I will definitely check out the suunto line as well.

Poach, if I ever make a decision on this, I will report back here.

Does the ripcurl thing measure jumps or just GPS track you?
Just time/distance/top speed. It's my selling point is session tracking - I like to know how many days I'm in the water a year, overall distance is pretty cool too.

It's primarily based in surfing, tracks waves, length of rides, etc. The main thing as compared to an Apple Watch is durability, I beat the hell out of that thing and have had no problems with it.

I'm with Garmin Fenix as well although I don't have any experience with other types. One thing that has seriously disappointed though is the strap. First strap lasted about six months, second strap (stainless steel) about two weeks.. Cant get any straps around here so I've stopped using it now..

What about getting multiple products? I have a Huawei Watch 2 that I use for running and as a general watch & I use a PIQ sensor for Kitesurfing (sometimes). I don't bother with the Huawei when kiting because I like the disconnected feeling.

I was a competitive runner for years and had GPS / HR watches for the last decade. I have ran with a lot of top class runners and most totally ignore the data 90% of the time. My point is data is useless a lot of the time. Just go out and enjoy your session.

Yeah thanks!

Had landed on the Samsung Galaxy 46mm watch, but the unlocked version currently only works with Sprint. So according to the guy at Best Buy there is a full unlocked Galaxy watch coming. (will take any GSM nano sim card)
Otherwise that looked like my choice. Full function Spotify, tracker, phone speaker w/mic, waterproof and decent sized screen.

*also it's not as big as a hub cap like some of the other sport/smart watches out there. Holy crap are some of them monsters......I'd have to get more manly wrists to pull them off.

Whereas the Woo is super accurate....

...and in any case doesn’t do GPS tracking.
Where did you hear me say that woo is super accurate? we can start the umpteenth discussion about the Woo here but I have tried both regularly and the Woo together with Pia is the most accurate device available at this moment and the sessions app works very badly. the Woo in combination with the Apple watch for GPS is simply the best combination richt now!

I still don;t care for Apple. And I don't want a Woo. So barring those two whats your take.

I'm liking the Garmins and Samsung so far Samsung because it seems pretty light weight, Garmin because it seems like almost a standard for tracking. I still will check out the suunto.
