I'm amazed sometimes with what people drop by with and ask me to take a look at/fix. They're always newbs, no lessons yet, got a REALLY good deal on Craigslist, Ebay, etc...and couldn't pass it up. One time, I had a guy come in and told me this same type of story. I went out to look at it. It was an old Cabrinha Black Tip, circa 2001 or so. Didn't even have any bladders in it, missing half the bridle connections. I told the guy, in no uncertain terms, this was a bad deal and he got screwed. I explained the numerous reasons why. He was bummed, but said he understood, packed up and left. About a month later, another guy comes in, needs me to look at his kite. He gets it out, and damn...another Black Tip. Missing bladders and some attachment points...He bought it off Craigslist. Told him the same thing I told the first guy, AND I told him that I told the first guy that, too. He was pissed at that guy and said he was going to call him back and try to get his money back. I told him good luck. 2 or 3 months later, 3rd guy comes in, "Sure, I'll take a look"...I get out there and see what bag it's in and said, "It's an old Cabrinha Black Tip, doesn't have any bladders in it, AND it's missing some of the bridle connections." He was like, "How do you know that without even looking at it?" I told him the story and he was super bummed (as you can imagine). To save future newbs, and to be honest, myself too, I gave him $100 credit towards a new kite if he would let me have it to destroy. Now he's out there kiting and having fun...and I haven't seen another Black Tip since.
