DIY PU Tubing

Postby alford » Sun Apr 14, 2019 10:05 pm

How do I add PU cover to my sheeting lines? Where to source the tubing? Is it difficult to do? Thanks

Buy it on ebay. Pull it through with a piece of line. Lubricate with water. You can soften the tube with hot water. It's quite hard to pull through.

It's easy enough to sew PU with a domestic sewing machine if you want to anchor it into place.

It's not strictly necessary to sew it. I have had a couple of DIY repairs and customisations where I've simply relied on friction and the hardware at either end (it doesn't matter if the tube on leader line moves, for depower the shackle on one end and the chicken loop on the other secured the tube).

You need to think through your project and decide for yourself.

You cannot add PU tube to the centre line on a bar not made for PU tube. The hole will be too small. The tube will jam if you try to steer and sheet at the same time. It's tolerable, but not pleasant. You might be able to make it work by using a thinner depower line and thinner tube.
