Ouch...what went wrong here?

Postby Toby » Mon Apr 22, 2019 5:46 pm

Looks like he got unhooked?
Then steered the kite into a loop.

No leash?

How not to launch !

Unhooked launch means holding the chicken loop and NOT touching the bar. This guy is pulling on the bar like crazy, which is opposite of unhooked launch.

Nice pop, unhook loop, finished high. The only thing that went wrong was he let go of the bar. Could have held on and landed it😳

It looks like he was well over powered. If he'd only kept the kite low the gust would not have ruined his day. It was a tight loop though...

Remember kids; standing on sand? Keep the kite low!

OK, maybe it's bad terminology, since most kiters assume that unhooked means holding the bar unhooked. What I meant is the kite on it's tip at the edge of the wind window and you don't need to control kite in this position, you can be hooked-in or unhooked holding the chicken loop, just don't touch the bar. Kite is not flying but it's launched in this position, you can choose when to grab the bar and fly it up. It's the same as tethered launch when you unhook from the post and hook to your harness. That short moment when you are holding the kite by the chicken loop only. If you have better term, please advise.

The guy has no idea how to fly, the has control then sends it into a loop like a muppet.
