New twintip board size?

Postby jocol » Wed Apr 24, 2019 10:46 am

Hi

I had a board size 138x40, but lost it. Need to buy a new one, but not sure about the size.
I am 1.82m and 75kg/165 lbs. I have a 9 and a 12m kite.
My level: already doing upwind but still need to improve. And working on transitions.
I have a nice deal for a Brunotti Onyx of 2016 with size either of 136/41 or 140/42. What would be best size for me?
Or should I look for another 138cm?

Cheers

In what winds do you head out? If you go out in lighter winds a bigger board might be good, but I would not go with one wider than 42 cm. In stronger winds it is more difficult to hold your edge if your board is wider and a small board could be better with 41 cm in width or less. I learned on a 133x41 when I was 75 kg and and now switched to a 139x42 at 85 kg and am going to add a surfboard for lightwind cruising. How did you lose the board? Mad current or lack of bodydragging skills?

Yep I liked the 138.
I do it mostly in the Netherlands, winds from 15 to 30knts
I think was a bit of both :o :baby:

I'm on the UK south coast, 82kg, 6/8/10/12m Ozone Enduro V2.

I have a Lieuwe Shotgun 136 x 40.5 for the same wind range as you.

You'd have to fight me to get this board off me.

If you liked the size of your old board, I think you'd like the 136 x 41. It's the closer in size to your old board. The 140 x 42 would feel good in lighter winds, but you probably wouldn't like it in the higher wind ranges. Just my 2 cents.

41cm is a pretty good standard width for your weight (width is more important than length). I am 73kg and ride a 134/41 Naish Motion in that wind range.
