my doctor tells me to do whatever is good for psychological health. I recon that is way more important than anything else.
Been in the wheelchairs. Twice in my life learned to walk. Crushed hip as a kid, and crushed T12-13 in my 30s. Now 50yo. Just broke my angle, went unnoticed on Xray with no displacement. But talar dome split in half, says MRI. Hopefully will not develop necrosis or worse, since no cast or anything. My second kiting injury

Get the biggest wing you can, not too big board, medium volume. It is not that hard to learn at all, at least wasn't for me. Get big kite tho. Small is rubbish when learning.
Eat. Eat well. Some things are true miracles given to us. You just need to find them.
