Soul 12m, what line lengths for HF (strapless), pls?

Postby omg » Mon May 06, 2019 7:03 am

So, I'm doing a new line set, and was wondering, what the line lengths you prefer for hydrofoiling (especiallly strapless if that makes a difference), please? I am typically only riding Soul in its low end.

I have been using 15m lines excluding the depower and leader lines. 15m is long enough for looping in light wind but short enough for tacks when the wind picks up a bit.

I am using 30 meter lines only, for my foil kites and also for 12 m2 LEI kites.

25-27 m when windy and small kites, but only LEI then.

Apparently no consensus about this, so you might have to choose what you believe in yourself

Although there is no consensus and I personally like long lines - I found soul power stroke too violent for HF strapless riding. Especially combined with they inability to depower while in window flight. So actually it may be good idea to slow kite flight speed down /with shorter lines smaller WW so kite doesnt reach its full speed/ and at the same time shorten time where kite cannot be controlled by sheeting.
So i will definitely consider shorter lines for Soul. I will start with ca. 4m less than factory setup /which is 21 i think/. You want to do this gradually because you must adapt your timing. Soul is by performance freerace kite with Ozone Chrono like performance and its marketing positioning as HF freeride kite is imo misleading

I think the difference is that you ride your 12 m2 Soul in pretty normal winds and quite often tomtom, so short lines are good.

I ride mine when it is 4 to 6 knots (78 kg), thus in the marginal end, so longer lines is a must, and gives me better carving with power possibilities all the way through the turn :D

And you ride in the lower end you write OMG, so maybe you should start with something not too short nor too long, 22-25 meter for starters :D

If strapless and carving ill go between 17 and 21 meters, more lines and you ll have a bit more issues carving and turning the kite, and less than that the strokes will have too much power.
I usually go 13 meters for freerace, 17 meters for all arround foiling and 24 meters for twintip riding.
