Hey guys I'm trying to get into Kiteboarding and I found this used set. I'm thinking about looking at it this weekend can you guys give me some things to look for that might tell me not to buy it? Also I'm 205lbs the guy selling is 200lbs but says he has never used it he just bought it off a friend and it has been sitting. Will this gear setup work for me? If so what winds would I need? My background is wakeboarding and snowboarding. I do have time flying an aerobatic kite so I understand some of the kite flying technique. I just don't want to get a kite and board that isn't for me and end up not liking the sport due to inefficient gear. Thanks everyone!

The pads and straps are not too bad (although ooold), given the kite is a Black Tip and the price listed is $800 I’m assuming this to be a windup...
If not, RUN AWAAAY!

It's not not good for anyone.
Don't get any kite older than 2009.

Its a great deal if they are paying YOU 800$ to take it away from them and dispose of it properly. That stuff is old really really old. package deals are tough unless they are kite quivers.
The bar is old looks like a old school safety.
The harness looks like its from the 80's windsurf conversion, have no clue what the handles are for i certainly wouldn't use a handle setup on a LEI,
The kite isn't blown up so god knows if it holds air,
The board is soso and at 161 is good for the first season as a beginner then its a coffee table after that.

So I told him it's probably not for me and he said if I give him $400 this weekend I can have it. Is it worth that? From what I have read the kite isn't that great and probably isn't for a beginner. Thoughts?

Dude, there's no situation where this is a good deal. Seriously, walk away.
Take lessons and buy used gear from the school you're learning with.
Good deals on quality new gear on a budget:

Best of luck.

A beginner setup, with you the beginner, BEING SETUP! If you haven't had some good pro lessons yet, then do that FIRST. Don't worry about buying anything other than a harness and other essential accessories as indicated until after you have some good quality lessons. You use their gear at the instructor's risk while learning what will work best for you. Never buy used gear without having someone more experienced than you and knowledgeable check it out first. There are horror stores about guys fleecing newbies for almost double that for gear that has been obsolete for better than a decade. Don't get setup, do the lessons, then shop around.

Yeah that stuff isn't going to help you and it may actually hurt you.
Go to a shop and ask them if they have any good condition demo or non current gear.
