Does anyone have any info on the accident at Mirlo Beach(Rodanthe/Hatteras)yesterday? Happened in the afternoon in 12m conditions.
I was just in from a great session when I heard the sirens getting closer. Ended up with 3 sheriff cars, an ambulance, and two ocean recuse trucks parked on Cross of Honour Way by the Mirlo Beach entry. From our house we couldn't see very well, but did see them load somebody into the ambulance which then headed north up Hiway 12 at quite a high rate of speed.
There was also a very serious altercation between a windsurfer and a kiter about the same time.
On a side note.....kooks everywhere this past week in Mirlo, getting crazy here! Newbies out in conditions they shouldn't be......
Not much work happening on the Jug Handle bridge either......seems the work has stalled.
Lots and lots of Ontario folks here......

Sounds like a mess. Hope injuries aren't too bad.
Always looking for details to try and learn about accidents. In the era of hydrofoils, "12 M conditions" is not very useful. MPH or knots would be more helpful.

I heard an unofficial report that EMT's were called to assist a kiteboarder with a broken jaw on Hatteras Island, but I understood it was yesterday (Sunday) not Saturday. I suppose it could have been the same incident. No other details.

Apparently it was a heart attack on the beach that a kiter suffered, not kite related.
Info is from some guys staying in the old Nevin's Tuition house right across the street from the beach where the incident took place.
NOT really a kiting accident.
I hope the guy made it.
