(4 lines) Kites vs Bars compatibility chart - 2018+

Postby alexeyga » Sat May 18, 2019 3:46 pm

Due to yet another surge of "can i use bar AAA with BBB kite?" topics, I've updated the chart i've made a while ago the gist of which comes down to:

-In 2019 you can safely and effectively fly any 4 lines kite on any 4 lines bar, though not all combinations are "ideal"
-All differences between bars come down to details, lots of details

NB: Some companies (cough-ozone-cough) are still too dumb-headed to make bars with removable (and hence - reversible and hence - replaceable when needed to) pigtales - so in order to use some bars with some kites - one might require adding some pigtales.

NB2: Some kites still require you to wear a set of g-strings from the same brand - otherwise these kite tend to fall out of the sky a lot - nothing to do about it...

So here we go:

Watch their videos - it's a variation of the older BW bar which was used by OR, GIN and others a few years back... anyhow, that's what they are flying wiith for now, it's a standard 4 lines with a V-split and a single-front-line release. Nobody says that this is what they will be going with at the end, but you can be sure as hell that they will be keeping the "standard" configuration.

So Duotone, says hi y, what about the click bar? You can run that as a V single line flag out, I assume that is ok.

According to their specs - the position of the split is adjustable, so you can run it any way you want.

I use my click bar on all my kites, works great, can adjust the split and use different pigtails on my Best kites, love it.

Sorry to ask what’s probably asked a thousand times, but I was hoping for some comparability advice

I’ve got a 2014 Slingshot Rally 14m which came with a similar age Compstick large bar with 27m lines

I’ve just bought a new RRD Global 8.2 with 23m lines to use with my other kites

Given its new I’d love to use it with the slingshot, and it seems that both bars have four equal line lengths and I can swap the pigtails around to make it work. Both bars also release onto a single flag line.

I’m a beginner so am being ultra cautious about getting my kit right, but just wanted to triple check that (based on these great tables above!) I’d be fine to use my RRD Bar on the Rally? Seems sensible to use the new bar whenever I can!

Thanks in advance

27m lines are somewhat “lightwind length”. The 22-24m lines are considered regular freeride lines and that what you should be riding normally. Switching between line length will be messing up with your timing for jumps and tricks, yet long lines have some advantages (flying above turbulence line, lightwind, etc)

Core is more like a mix between single and double line safety. It definitely doesn't work on all kites as it only creates a 3m difference between the two power lines. It doesn't even work 100% on core kites itself!
