Issue BWS Stallion V2

Postby GuillaumeCoteMenard » Wed May 29, 2019 1:42 am

Hi
I just want to share my experience with my brand new BWS Stallion V2.
Got the board brand new last week. Did my first ride on it last friday for less than a 1 hour. When i got back to the beach i realized that there was a 4 inches crack on the bottom near the front fin. The fin is totaly undamaged and the no sign of impact. When i was riding i’m 100% sure that i didn’t felt any impact. Weirdly, the board feel like empty under the crack, like if it was lacking of material at this location.
Sent right away pictures to the shop and they forward it to BWS.
Their answer was that it wasn’t cover by warranty. They said that they never saw delamination on their board. They mentioned that my crack as been created by an impact.
As i mentionned, i cannot certified at 100% that i didn’t hit something. I can tought certfied at 110% that if i hit something it was a really really a low power impact as i didn’t even felt it.
My opinion, is that the board is super light and performant yes, but their mention « bulletproof » and super solid construction is bullsh... And mostly, the customer care and warranty coverage is totaly shittier.
I know, before anyone mention it, that there is no surfboard « bulletproof » outhere, but i expect that a 1050$ US would hold at least more than 1 hour of soft riding (wind was about 11 knots so no jumping...).
For full disclosure, i pay for all my gear, i’m not sponsored by any company and i never bought BWS before so i didn’t have a bone already with them.
So for conclusion, super fun board to ride, but don’t expect a « super solide construction » as mentioned IMO.
Good wind to everyone and i’ll go pay for the repair of my brand new 1050$ board...;)
Sorry for my english, i speak french

That looks more like transport damage from being mashed in a plane, truck bed or car boot than damage from riding...
Not that it necessarily makes it your fault at all.

very unlikely but possibly could be a dodgy sander that did a shitty sandthrough that might not have helped - you would be able to see how thin it is though

looks like a crush?

doesnt really look like a heat delam - is the glass peeled off the foam on the base? could be some wird heat delam/.. unlikely though

it's a pretty easy ding fix , what tricks can you do on it?

Firstly, sorry abt the board. I agree, it looks like either a crush from transportation? or then sanding the laminates very thin. Was the board 100% intact (no signs of broken area) before you take it to a ride?

Secondly, how do you repair a damage like this in real life, what's the simplest method? Would you open up the crack to be able to inject epoxy resin or sand the edges and laminate it with a bit of fiber?

Does look like it has been over sanded.

Before doing anything else check the board and particularly the rails for the same problem by applying strong thumb pressure and watch for flex. Wouldn't be the first time a board has been incorrectly laminated and then sanded to match a rail template which has resulted in oversanding.

Good luck.

Special thanks to "iriejohn". In my deception i never thought about applying heavy pressure with my thumb on the rest of the board.
I did it this morning after reading your post and there's was another small weak and "empty" spot on the same rail, but more in front of the board.
The glass (epoxy layer i guess) crack on surface with only my thumb pressure. The crack isn't througout the entire layer tought.
I don't know what to think about it, i'm far from beeing a surf construction expert.
There's a close up picture of the surface crack from thumb pressure
I guess i'll have it repair, enjoy the good feeling of the board while it holds up and stay away from their product after that...;)

That really seems like a manufacturing defect.
