I added the surf rope to my hooked version but I also have the full rope slider version.
Personally I highly prefer the full rope version.
The hook is not really in the way as long as the kite is in the air with tension but you can snag your chickenloop on the hook when walking around or full slack line scenarios.
If you have a surf chickenloop and do not use the ring at all but connect directly to the surf slider I think there is a possibility to twist the lines around the chickenloop caught behind the hook in a way the safety will probably no longer work.
So I ride with the surf version. It is slightly modified it by also adding the ring through the small loop.
So it "rides" on the small loop + ring by default but when it wears out or fails the ring will have the second rope as a backup.
Off course you lose some sliding action in this setup but I actually prefer this since it will keep the bar slightly closer to my body making for a totally awesome amount of bar throw in my setup.
I have setup my OR shift bar with the stopper at about 1 meter of bar throw now (bar max is an insane 1.2meter) . Sheeting out fully is pretty similar like pulling the safety
