Is that a picture of the surface of Mars?
Haha ! Im I the only one that this happens to ? I would go through a full, spring and top every year because of that stupid roller hook ! The rope does last a lot longer with it though.
No, happens to me too. Sometimes the top of the spreader bar pad gets tucked backwards, and makes it worse. Seems to wear out the suit about the same rate as it wears out every where though...

This is the best solution - almost all friction absorbed by the pulley rolling on the 6mm stainless shackle bolt so virtually no rope wear.

That looks great! Have been using dynabar for several years. Got the stealth bar and harness. How did u make that or where did you get it. Looks like the same pulley/wheel from dynabar but welded with a ring? Agree that less friction equals less wear

Matt
It's the pulley wheel (which has a 6mm ID) from my old Dynabar on a 6mm shackle. The 4mm x 25mm 316 stainless ring was welded onto the shackle by a local company who do stainless welding, cost was peanuts.

The Dynabar pulley wheels can now be sourced from Shapeways.com

https://www.shapeways.com/product/G2GJ5 ... d=64344779

Shackles with slotted pins (less for rope to tangle on) are widely available, eg

https://www.gsproducts.co.uk/6mm-stainl ... -slot-pin/

as are 316 stainless rings. A larger ring could be used if required, of course.

I now have an Infexion.eu seat belt QR, one version of which has a 6mm shackle, with my Dynabar wheel on it.
Here it is on my Mystic Stealth rope spreader bar. I think that Infexion.eu can now supply their QR with a wheel fitted.

Would this Petzl wheel from rock climbing work equally well compared to the Dynabar version:

I'd be looking to combine it with this d-ring:

Would that work safely?

Anyone got experience running both the rope as well as the hook? Does your chickenloop (or other stuff) get caught on the hook while using the rope?

Currently have rope setup, but would be nice to try some unhooking sometime.

I added the surf rope to my hooked version but I also have the full rope slider version.
Personally I highly prefer the full rope version.
The hook is not really in the way as long as the kite is in the air with tension but you can snag your chickenloop on the hook when walking around or full slack line scenarios.
If you have a surf chickenloop and do not use the ring at all but connect directly to the surf slider I think there is a possibility to twist the lines around the chickenloop caught behind the hook in a way the safety will probably no longer work.

So I ride with the surf version. It is slightly modified it by also adding the ring through the small loop.
So it "rides" on the small loop + ring by default but when it wears out or fails the ring will have the second rope as a backup.
Off course you lose some sliding action in this setup but I actually prefer this since it will keep the bar slightly closer to my body making for a totally awesome amount of bar throw in my setup.
I have setup my OR shift bar with the stopper at about 1 meter of bar throw now (bar max is an insane 1.2meter) . Sheeting out fully is pretty similar like pulling the safety :)

Inspired by another post on the thread I got this low friction rig on Amazon. My Eleveight chicken loop fits perfectly and the ring glides on the rope unlike the stock ring

Has anyone using the surf slider rope figured out a way to properly anchor launch. My bar doesn't love hooking the anchor carabiner above the swivel/CL. I'd rather not use a carabiner on the rope, and normal self-launch where I'm at is problematic to my LE (rocks/friction, etc.)
