The chicken loop release is a bit sketchy, but replace that with a modern loop and some longer throw dyneema rope and you are good to go with any current kite. I just rebuilt a 2015 Naish bar with a identical pull-pull depower from the same age and it works perfectly.

This bar is a good start for a custom bar because it is very light, I think it is made of carbon ... hence rare ; I had the same and bought another two for custom bar creation;
only the central hole is a bit little, so better to get a single-rope depower line inside

Well,

Yeah, the release is. But the bar is actually way beyond anything at that time.

The bar ends are soft enough, ultra soft grip, and whats the best is the bar ends can be rotated. Hence double grip life.

Very impressed with 2002 bar. Particularly if doesn't need floaters ;)

Could someone confirm that it is made of carbon ? I had read this somewere but nothing evident on the bar . Its weigvt seems between aluminium and carbon (personnal feeling).
On my custom modification , i have changed the CL ans also the depower line stroke , to short originally. Trim was still working well but i dislike straps so i changed. I have had mini floaters

Naish 2003-2005; I used 3 of these for a while. It is carbon, not alum. The soft rubber bar ends and sleeved steering lines were way ahead of the time. You can drill the center hole little wider to allow thicker rope -- I did it with all 3 bars and none failed. (You will have to smooth the exposed carbon, otherwise it is too abrasive and will take toll on the center line). Quick release is no good, get rid of it ASAP.

Alternatively, you can re-purpose it for nice carbon fuselage.
