Pfeww ..thougt i was the only one, feeling awkwardly negative. But your opinion reinforces mine, so here's a little recap of what I deleted: I feel like they don't care so much about the design (the looks-part that is) since board and more renamed the product line to Duotone. Already last year I felt weird seeing those designs that just looked...simple, with odd font-choices and unclear images in the kite, but alas they prolly had to move quickly last year. But now this year - if the image above is any indication - the design seems incomprehensible: the prices keep going up (surely this years'new batch won't be cheaper) and the design keeps getting simpler, as if they're making a statement out of saying that the looks are unimportant...I don't get it. If I look at the image of the Neo I think of old-fashioned ski-gear designs, with fluo-colors and tacky gradients...so here's a question: has the person who did the design until they became Duotone been fired or resigned? Because I cannot imagine the same person designing such beautiful looking kites as he/she did for north (especially years 16-17-18) and now putting out these simplistic designs and colorschemes. I understand that tastes and colors are personal, but hey I feel like this is definitely a few step backwards, while the price steadily moves forward...what's up with that Duotone?

Apparently you still do not understand that ist personal taste. I know a lot of people including myself who, together with those of Naish, think it is one of the nicest looking kites. But let's not write full pages about you and my taste, not at all fascinating..

For those curious about our graphic design process... We've been working with the same graphic design company for years, earlier doing nkb, now doing Duotone Kites. They also do graphics for Ion and Fanatic and Duotone (ex NSW) windsurf (they've also contracted for Nike among others.... they're an experienced design company with a history in outdoor sports) They have a team committed to design for our brands, this team often comes to large kite events to get feedback from kiters. They also attend tons of expos across many industries to keep their fingers on upcoming trends etc... I walked with them once through ISPO and it was crazy to hear their insight about what colors will be hot in the next 2 years, and then see it come true in snowboarding clothing, car colors, etc a year or two later.

In the particular case of our 2020 kites a guy named Flo, our in-house designer, came out with the panel layouts (those with good eyes will note that the layout the past few years has been identical across models, we're using two separate layouts this year based on the relative AR of the kites) which I honestly think is the best I've seen on a kite. I listened to him explain the thought process that went into the layout while showing several iterations he'd worked on through the process, how it evolved from last year's layout with nods to both our history and our future... It made me look at the design with new eyes and definitely gave me more appreciation for the thought and effort that went into something that. Although one might not appreciate everything that goes into this kind of intricacy at first glance, it has a huge effect on overall impression. Flo is an extremely talented designer who has worked for Boards and More for years and has had a hand in the graphic and industrial design sides of many of our products. Plus he's an avid kiter, mountain biker, hiker, and world traveler.

I 100% understand that not everyone will love the design, but it's definitely not due to a lack of effort, dedication, and commitment by our team. And I personally think it looks rad. Kudos to Flo and to the 3deluxe team on the 2020 lineup.

I like new graphics a lot more than 2019 ones. 2017 and 2018 were my favourite tho.

Notice trailing edge and either no dacron (folded ripstop?) or just a tiny strip of dacron.
Any changes to dice ? ;)

thanks Dan for those explanation. I'm totally in love with Duotone kite's feelings. I really like 2019 designs but just thought 2020 design was too simplistic. let's wait and see it in real conditions :thumb: :thumb:
However I really like 2020 boards design

I liked the 2018 design, the 2019 looked better in person but the weird graphics print did not.

I think most of us are not trendy with colors or fashion.

I did think some things such trump design like safety and maintenance.

The white kite with a white leading edge is not very practical in my opinion, I’ve had a white kite before, wry hard to keep clean.

I have argued that the color scheme should be asymmetrical to give a clue in orientation, a simple red panel on the left wing tip should suffice.

I don’t see those as limiting the designers canvas.

And why can’t we have a simple and fairly obvious large kite size? That really helps those on shore.

For those curious ...

Dan, nice that you take the effort to give some insight in to the co. and how it works. However, do you do any surveys before locking-in the color and designs? The reason I am asking is that I am yet to meet a person who likes the 2019 canopy "stains" and what was the reasoning behind them, please?
Many people here wonder, what is the point of using outsourced expensive? firms for these where a few person team inhouse would do it, like you mentioned what Flo is doing?

Looking forward for your 2020 products. :bye:
