Mouth Mount GoPro Leash?

Postby Exal » Fri Jun 14, 2019 9:40 am

How do you guys secure the little thing? I have a floater on it but am trying to figure out how to attach a leash of some sort, maybe around the neck? or somewhere at my impact vest? What kind of leash? Going for a trip tomorrow and will use the gopro for the first time, any advice would be good! Hope I don't lose it right away

I have tied a small piece of flying line to the hinge of the case. The end of that line has a knot. I have also tied a larger piece of old flying line to my impact vest and that end has loop. Normally I attach the camera to that line and than store it away under the impact vest when I am not filming. It has the advantage that I can take the camera from the line when I want to hold it in the hand.

Why use a leash if you already have a floater? After filming I put it under my wetsuit/impact vest.
Worst thing that can happen is that you drop it but then it floats and you pick it out of the water?

I find the tucking it into your wetsuit only really works if you have a frontzip suit. Stuff tucked under your impact vest seems to fall out of the armpits during big boosts as the harness pulls the vest up creating a gap. YMMV?

Best solution I had was with a small ski pass reel leash - attached to thin cord loop that fits in the gap in the mount where you screw it together. This kept the cord out of the way but didn't exact much force onto the camera when it was in your gob.

You can't do selfies as the string is not long enough and you end up with a line in the picture. Good for POV though. I'm currently attaching via a carabiner to the shoulder loop of my impact vest. Keeps it tidy when filming. The weight of my camera is enough so that I can tuck the mouth piece over the side of my harness when not in use without a problem.

I can think of worse cases. This weekend isn't that big a deal since I am at a lake but I usually prefer to be on the ocean.
