Bar Trim Idea - Need your wisdom

Postby Barryg101 » Fri Jun 14, 2019 8:45 pm

So I'm loving the big air and megaloops and getting more confident in powered loops. But I've noticed that after a while my lines are slightly out of tune due to constantly looping in the same direction.

My question is, would it be a good idea to swap the bar attachments after each month or so of kiting to kind of level out the stretch?

For example this month yellow side of the bar attaches to the left next month attach the yellow side to the right?

Curious to hear your opinions

I just let the left and right lines be random. I never care about colour coding. I just walk the lines out and attach whichever line is nearest to each wing tip. I have never understood why some think it is important. I have kited for 18 years and never made a single mistake based on line colour and side of the kite.

Sorry no wisdom on megaloops just an observation! It is not just stretch you are dealing with, it is also shrinkage. If it was just stretch your lines would have to be getting longer each month to make the swop worthwhile. I retune my bars by tying them off and manually stretching them. Plenty vids available on this. Imho you will have a better grasp of what's needed if you think shrinkage is as much a detuner as stretch.

If you find you are continually stretching out the same line it is probably time for an adjustment at its leader. Don't forget to monitor changes between front and back lines as well.

Also when desciding whether to stretch or shorten the opposite leader etc remember the kite does not know what state of creep/stretch/shrinkage etc. Generally it just needs to know the lines are the same length. You could consider that a fully stretched line will give a more positive feel and a shrunk line will be a little spongier. But in real terms I have not been able to feel the difference in normal line management.

Yeah good points there, probably best is just trim it properly once a while, Brouwersdam is in south Holland. Zeeland

Nice. I used to windsurf at Renesse near Zierikzee back in the 80s. Lovely people and great beachs. Not enough wind we used to ride skateboards with rigs on the dam. Probably crowded now I guess!
