.
Loops are smoother and quicker,
Is the 12m2 that quick, that you can do powered kiteloops and the kite is gonna catch you on the upstroke!?
...or is 10m2 still the maximum size for megaloops for an average rider?
Agio, with respect to looping, I'm talking downloops on a surfboard. Ha, my days of freestyle are mostly over at this point.

Hey Adamj2281, did you find that you were playing more with the trim ?
Pana - not really, all 3 sessions have been really up and down for the most part actually. I ride with the Stick Shift bar on surf, and the Pilot on foil (I like the smaller diameter bar on foil because I'm not really using it as much), Stick Shift for surf because I like to quickly bleed off a bit of power as I go through a run on waves then power back up out the back.
Anyways, I really didn't notice anything unusual. The biggest takeaways (again, only 3 sessions) - upwind far superior, the frame is really solid. No opinion yet with it in light wind foiling (trust I will have plenty of opportunities).
I will say, on one of the sessions I would have been in what I consider high end for my 12m by the end (16-18 kts SW - opposing our longshore current), and it was very comfortable, again, very stable soaking up gusts, although the old Roam is pretty good at that as well.

Just to let you know Ozone lines are SK99 and as far as I'm aware we were the first to switch to high modulus SK99, and are the best lines I've used. They are rated at 500/300KG breaking strain which makes them one of the strongest or the strongest on the market. They feel very direct and there is zero stretch in normal use. Buy a set of Ozone pigtails and they suit any brand of kite too.
As a matter of fact, the 500kg Ozone lines have an average breaking strength above 600kg. I've seen test reports showing upto 640kg BS. Testing was done on a professional Instron machine equipped for lines/ropes tensile strength test, not a garage jig with a load cell.
At a guess, 500kg is minimum breaking strength.

Does anyone actually care about that number? AFAIK lines are most likely to break due to wear. None of the lines would be snapping because you would exceed max load. And the number does not necessarily say anything about wear resistance and how it behaves when there is wear present?
Also back on topic: what would people recommend in kite size down one size from a 10m roam on a foil? (75KG / 633 Moses)
I think the cut off point is around 16 to 18 knots? I am still just able to ride the foil so I have no good grasp on when I get overpowered.
I am currently considering a kauper XT to add to my foil quiver (reasoning that I would be using it over 15 knots and super light wind performance is less critical. aluula gains would be less pronounced while over 3x the price of the kauper)

@Ozone Kites AUS - Ozone bars are high quality, no arguing here
Just sharing my experience - I like my Enduros flown on a shorter, high quality lines. The Liros DC-401 are rated at 580kg, the steering and power lines on OR Shift bar are the same thickness/strength.
I've seen these ridiculous breaking strengths here and there, but there is no way or test method a DC-401 can exceed 500kg! Liros show a 400 daN minimum BS in their catalogue.
The testing I've done delivered results around 430-440kg.

@nixmatters - I agree with you. My point was just that both Ozone and Ocean Rodeo use really high quality lines for their bars. I think that break load figures are not the main measure of quality here, as leeuwen pointed out - the lines will most probably snap due to wear, not due to exceeding max breaking load.

Evidently you were offended by my comment that the 500kg and 600kg figures might both be valid, and yes, the two numbers do matter.

I am not offended since: I don’t own either of the bars so I don’t have any stake in this.
It was really a genuine question/remark:
I never heard people snapping kite lines that where not worn in some way. So I don’t see how these numbers are that relevant: at some point they are strong enough, anything more is overkill.
When I hear people about crappy lines/bar the issue is that they wear quickly due to various reasons. Not about “this brand new line was just not strong enough and snapped”.
But please enlighten me why I should care about 500KG or 600KG breaking strength.

Yes, it's about residual breaking strength after certain amount of wear. What actually matters here is:
- size (diameter/cross section), with the Ozone having roughly 35% larger cross section than DC-401.
- coating. not all coatings have same abrasion and wear resistance.
- raw material. Actually SK99 has lower abrasion resistance than SK75/78.
- braid pitch/density, as higher braid angle results in higher friction / lower abrasion resistance.
So it's correct that 400, 500 or 600 kg don't translate directly into longevity, but are somewhat related.
As for the numbers I posted above, I would compare the actual results I got (430 vs 600), not what the line producers have stated as minimum values.
I'm afraid we're off topic and I'm happy to continue this discussion in another dedicated thread

Breaking loads are relevant because they provide an indication of how much wear might be expected from them before they are at risk of breaking.
