Any value in a 2005 Naish Boxer?

Postby Andykitingbrighton » Sun Jun 30, 2019 10:17 am

Hi,

Quite a few years ago, I bought an early Naish Boxer 2005 and sadly never used it (flown once, but never touched water) as had too much work stress on. (I've done a bit of kiting since then).

Obviously kit has developed and I know this old stuff can be described as dangerous due to less developed safety etc.

Seems a shame to bin something unused nevertheless. Think it has any value or an ideal home for adaptation? (could probably be in a museum sometime soon!).

Many thanks

Andy

Is it an SLE ie. does it have a leading edge bridle?

What is the flag out system?

What size? Kite only or with bar?

I still, occasionally, use a very early boxer 9m C kite for unhooked landboarding but they changed to SLE some when in the early 2000. Updated chicken loop and one valve repair. Kite kept cool and not much UV. Still usable for what it is!

No not really, super long bridal with linked rear attachment, weird pullies on bar end with extinct double depower system. Pulled one of those out to get a look at it recently and all the valves had delaminated. Velcro quick release with outdated safety system.
Short answer, NO

It's only as good as what you can use it for. Of course there is zero retail value but if you live where the wind is steady and the water shallow you could give it a try! I've seen people ride those ancient kites in the winter on the snow where it's safer if you get in trouble. If you decide not to use it there are places that make bags and other things from old kites!

I would say that the oldest Naish kite that still have some kind of practical value for an average kiteboarder is the Boxer SLE from 2007. It was a nice kite in the 9m size especially. The 6m is really unstable and the 12 and bigger have really bad low end and are slow. But the 9m is great fun, apart from the fact that it hindenburged from time to time.
