Depower Line Wear

Postby JakeFarley » Tue Jul 02, 2019 3:27 pm

I purchased a used Flysurfer Infinity 3.0 CC bar with my 12m Soul. The depower line is a bit frayed (see pics below).

Should I be concerned about failure at this time or does the line have some useful life left? Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks!!

My Flysurfer bar looked like that after about 3 sessions. I think it's common. Thankfully that depower line is very easy and inexpensive to replace.

Agreed. That amount of fraying is typical. I start to get concerned when the diameter of the line begins to change....if you run your hand along the line you'll feel pits and lumps. Then I know it's probably time to replace. :D

You can rub surf wax (hard-tropical type) or even normal candle wax on the line to make it last much longer if you want

That is normal, it just wears over the sessions. FS depower solution is dual dyneema. It contains core-dyneema meaning outside-dyneema you see can even break but still frontlines are connected to you and you can kite home. Broken outside-dyneema will limit depower travel a bit as bar will roll it from where it is broken.

Please only use candle wax!

surf wax = sticky wax mixed wit candle wax and you don't need the sticky stuff to get it extra messy.

Also bow string wax can be used.

How does candle wax or bow string wax hold up in the hot Florida sun? I would think that it would get sticky an pick up sand while setting up causing more wear.

Both tropical surf wax and candle wax hold up OK in very hot tropical conditions (35 C). No experience with bows
