it doesn't matter how light or heavy a kite is, some kites are durable some aren't, valves, bladder stitching, canopy, bridles, pulleys, it's all a part of the overall design of a kite. In general the kite models change every year so it's always a coin flip as to whether this year the kite will be durable or not. I think it's better if the manufacturers slow that down and only come out with new models every 3 or 4 years (so that any defects can be corrected) but that would hurt sales.

Well that’s essentially what is happening anyway. They change the color and tweak the bridle and paneling but the kite is pretty much the same.

What’s different lately is new materials. But even then a lot of the kite is similar in construction to previous years.
