Losing stoke

Postby ragzilla » Sat Aug 03, 2019 1:24 am

Alright....... i admit...... ive completely lost my stoke.
I dunno why.....

Been away for 12months, missed the kite season, and now home in the middle of winter.
My gear is in a huge heap, and all are in need of either major or minor repairs.
LE blow outs , TE-LE tears , lines are thrashed , deck inserts are beat , not even sure id fit in my wetsuit after 12 months of fat bastard lounging.
** insert pissing & moaning here ^^^^ )

I dunno......
My last season i accomplished so much of my kiting goals, really solid progression, and now im feeling like
"I wanna snort coke, and have sex with trashy women, not spend thoasands of dollars on kite gear!"

Im just not feeling it, and it sux to feel this way about something i love so much.
I feel like my dedication has gone, and i dont even want to look at the weather reports anymore.

How do i get my stoke back?
A new discipline?
New gear?
New locations?
New tricks?

I cant be the only one.
What have you done to get your stoke back after injury, trauma, life, or whatever else kills it.

You know the first time you properly waterstarted, and flew along for 25m....... right?...... how do i feel like that again?

Winter will do that.

Spring time, buy new kites. The Stoke will find you and deliver. Take a trip to Western Australia somewhere around Christmas. It won't fail you.

It shouldn't take a gimmik like a foil to bring it back. Either you have it or you don't. Take an extended break and see it it comes back. Find a different activity.

If you lost it, it means you never really had it. The trashy women thing sounds pretty good though.

So have I. I only have a hydrofoil at the moment and it sucks balls for the winter storm. Some nice person stole my trustee mutant.
That aside I was fading before the mutant got stolen.

It happens when you reach your max level of expertise for that given style that you can obtain given time constraints, risk and ability. After the progression slows or stops or even starts to regress then stoke dies off.

The key is to find another style or god forbid different activity for giving you stoke.

For me, i'm mountain biking much more than kiting. Kiting is ticking away on the side. But the mtb is giving me mucho stoke at the moment. I'm hopping the replacement mutant that i'm building will re-invigerate some of the kiting stoke i once had.
