1/2-inch cut on LE

Postby Bille » Sat Aug 24, 2019 3:55 pm

Was folding up my 13M Edge on Thursday ; noticed a 1/2-inch
or 12mm cut in the LE, (i can see the bladder inside).

Will the patch material supplied with the kite, be enough
to fix that ; or should i also hand sew it ?

Bille,
I'm sure that someone smarter than I will come along and spread some knowledge here (looking at you, GregK at Comox Kite Repair  ), but I'd definitely keep in mind that the LE is under a hell of a load. I'd be inclined to get it repaired professionally. Probably not very expensive to have done. Possibly expensive if it's not done properly and you pop the bladder. :o

Good luck.

Yes she's an Awesome girl ; only draw-back with a personality like her's :
the world needs hundreds more , just like her !! :D ----- :thumb:

OK because Ya said that : "LE is under a hell of a load."
I'm gonna clean it with alcohol -- stick on the patch --- then
slide a temporary plastic something between the bladder and LE
material to protect it , then hand sew the patch i just made
to make stronger and more permanent .

Bin a while since i messed with repairs for a kite ; thanks
for the second opinion !!!

Just tape it from the inside and more generous from the outside with the heavy tape. My Edge 10 runs with a cut like this for years now and I had bigger kites with cuts like that which just worked fine. They all ripped apart but NOT where I taped them but just for “other” ;-) reasons. G

Definetely a sewn patch repair. Keep your self safe. Its worth it. It's a long swim in if the bladder bursts through. Best $100 you will spend.

Agreed. Definitely sew it, because of the added stress on the LE. But it's an easy repair to do yourself. Hand stitch (UV resistant thread) is just fine for such a small tear.

12mm cut on 13m quite fat LE?

Not worth of sewing. Just dacron from inside will do. It will be almost invisible from outside, hard to find after if done properly.
