my issue is I use a tethered self launch, so attaching chicken loop to the rope or to a ring doesn't work well. I used the sliding mechanism from dynabar, which works great, but eventually it broke. Now I use a locking carabiner -- which also works fine, just have to make sure it has rounded smooth edges, or it will fray your rope quick. Have had this system for a couple years now. My only complaint is that using the tether to self-land, it can sometimes be difficult to get the chicken loop out of the carabiner gate against the pull of the kite and one-handed. I figure there's some kind of sailing slider quick release that would be optimal, but haven't looked into it (and also those Ronstan quick releases are pricey!)

I tethered self launch as well quiet often... For sure not all types of CL works well when you try to assemble it with one hand. When I started to use the slider rope system, I practiced to reassemble the CL, until I could do it blind folded.
I tethered launch in winds I can hold the kite above the CL. with one hand.

I have found the snap hook on a spare kite leash attached above the chicken loop works well to the handle the load/pull. Then the loop can be opened & attached at leisure.
