Postby Kitemanmuc » Thu Sep 05, 2019 7:06 am

Spending hours in the sun and in the water takes a toll on us. What methods do you implement to protecr yourself when you go out. What are the best sunscreens, hats etc to keep you from getting fried

almost always sunblock on face..almost always some eyeprotection from sun.
i like fishing shirts( with hoods and a facemask) if no jellies in water....otherwise wetsuit(with hood)

whatever way...i cover up.

in spite of my hobbies involving considerable time in the sun on the water... i refuse to allow my face to look like a chicharron

Several thin layers of sunblock an least a half hour before sweating at all ie. in the air-conned car.

Best sunscreen I found is a Bannana Boat Ultra Defense 100.
Very sticky, doesnt run into your eyes and works for a couple hours.
Only downside it is very thick.

I use the same and it's not really working for me. Face red after a few hours in the water (and I'm not pale skinned). Aloe Gator was by far the best if you can get your hands on it; otherwise Bullfrog. Just tarted using Surf Mud (imported from Australia) and seems very good so far. Anways a lycra onesie is highly advised, cheap and very comfortable, easy to wash. Otherwise a long sleeve lycra shirt.

By the way, I have been getting good results with a tip I got from Youtube (some surfing video, forgot which one): ladies foundation first, then baby diaper rash cream (which is 15% zinc oxide!) Works excellent and a benefit is that the foundation really stays on and is like rain-x for your eyes: water just bounces off your face, meaning I don't wipe my eyes after spray, meaning I'm not removing sunscreen from my nose and eyes area.

Sunblock everywhere. I quit wearing hats, so now I gotta apply it to my rapidly developing bald spot too. zinc & titanium only the chemical shit (oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, octinoxate, etceter-erate) is just as bad for your skin as the sun. Sunglasses if the water temp is above 40F below 40 they fog up too much. I like the stuff that goes on white because you can tell with a quick glance in the mirror if you need to re-apply. I'll sometimes add some chocolate powder to the zinc if I'm shooting videos so I don't have clown face. Bullfrog is probably the best that uses all the chemicals, but the thing is the more you apply of the chemical stuff on your face the worse it is for you because then more of the chemicals get into your bloodstream. So there's always the temptation to not use enough of the oxybenzone octisalate stuff. For zinc, the more you apply the better as it lays on top of your skin like paint. I usually go for banana boat because it's cheap.
