possible to change Cabrinha recoil to clamceat

Postby supachip1 » Fri Sep 06, 2019 3:18 pm

as per the title, has anyone swapped over the systems?

we have around 7 bars that we'd like to change/upgrade to the clamcleat system from the recoil the bars & lines are all good condition so replacing all the bars is way to much cost and nobody here to buy the old ones.

i''e not had a proper look yet but know we'd have to buy the cleats, de-power line etc, anyone done it..any tips? you tube links?

cheers

Not hard to do, I'd buy the parts from

https://www.asap-direct.com/

Based in Hong Kong and get the parts direct from the factory.

I used KISS system from Kiteboarding.com on my old bars and it worked magic for foiling specifically.
Cabrinha bars and lines are well worth $80 used but then a question whether another $70 (plus optional $29 for proper clamcleat) would be a good investment.

There are plenty folks who'd buy out old barebone bar for their bar projects or (replacement) lines in great condition and I'd consider it the best option for old gear use.

Going to ride this weekend - I'll take and post pics of my converted bars

Probably not relevant for you cause you sound like you're a school:

A bit of effort but you could eleminate the trim altogether. You'd probably need some new rope and safety line spliced to the new length.

I've built a bunch of non trim bars now mostly for use on foil kites. Without the trim system you pick up another 20-30cm of bar throw which almost compensates for the trim system to begin with... I think the only downside is that it's not suitable for unhooked tricks and if you're overpowered you will be riding with stretched arms.

Oh and by the way, the trim and recoil might not be the same overall length which could then mismatch your fixed steering line lengths. Cabrinha are a PIA how they don't have an adjustable steering line dyneema rope section. If so, you'd need to either compensate with the trim all the time or max out your adjustable pig tails.

God, why would you want to? The cleat is poorly cast and finished, and has a bunch of sharp edges up in there...

Good move supachip1, the cleat system is far better and a lighter option. Have been using for years without any issues. Makes trimming on the water more precise too.

"the trim and recoil might not be the same overall length" - that is correct.

And since the front lines of both trim systems have identical length, Cabrinha have sorted this out with different length line connectors (pigtails)
