yup.

we have a gopro max.... the horizon level function in "hero mode" makes the noir matter quark completely obsolete.
Good because Noir Matter really were not in the slightest bit interested when I contacted them about my seized up gimbal!

The processing with the Max looks amazingly easy and fast in the GoPro video. How has your processing experience been with the Max?

I hope it's a lot better than it was with the Fusion both with Phones and for proper editing on a computer. The Fusion app does not work on 90% of Android phones and transfer speed was a nightmare and stitching took ages even on really high spec computers. I hope the Hero Mode creates a stabilzed file that is ready to use in Final Cut or Premiere without any tedious extra workflows.

Insofar as I can tell looking at videos of it the editing of 360 footage on the max looks very easy on the GoPro app. The ability to make footage from a single GoPro look interesting and edit it to appear from multiple angles looks awesome although it sounds like this was difficult to achieve with the Fusion. If it’s easier with the Max then I’m tempted! Shame about the lack of slomo options in hero mode though.

Just found out that in Hero mode the max res is 1440p. That is Ok. But that makes it inferior to my Noir Matter / DJI Osmo Action setup where I can get 4K 60p 100mps footage and the lens is hydrophobic. So until my Noir Matter dies I won't consider the Go Pro Max to replace it. Also having domes lenses where I cannot add a hydrophobic lens protector makes it easy to decide not to get one yet.

I saw somewhere that the hero8 black will have an auto leveling mode - this might help with line and strut mounted video. Does anyone have any experience with this? Would be super nice! The Noir Quark, not being truly waterproof, is not a legit option...

No. The GoPro 8 does not have horizon levelling.

Yeah, I read that. But it does have leveling in the editing software - post shooting. Wondering if this works well and is user friendly?

I'm hoping GoPro adds that in a firmware update. That would be awesome. Doing it in post is easy enough, but the less I have to edit the better.

My Hero 8 is due in any minute....

It won't be able to do it properly for full rotations. At least not in 1080p. Maybe in 720. But for 1080 it would need an 5.7k capable sensor , and GoPro did not upgrade the internals on the Go Pro 8. It still has the same hardware as the 7.

Another big difference, maybe the biggest besides the stabalization, I have seen is the quality of photos pulled from videos. The quality of screen shots from GoPro 8 video is the best I have seen from any point and shoot.

Example:

This was taken from a 1080p 60fps video -
