GoPro Hero 8 about to release?

Postby POACHER » Mon Sep 09, 2019 4:07 pm

Getting to be about the time GP releases their new cams. Many Youtube speculation/leak vids popping up. Any retailers here have some intel?
I just bought a 7 Black last fall and am mostly happy with it. (vid/image quality, stabilization, voice comand) Some negatives remain. (poor battery life, random bug outs/shutdown, still not gimbal quality stabilization)

At least it doesn't fog anymore!

I'm hanging out for this too, I was going to go with the DJI Osmo Action but thought it better to wait see what GoPro release first.
I reckon the version 2 of the Osmo Action could eclipse the GoPro (not for at least a year though I guess)

Yeah it's pretty much like mobile phones these days - the second you buy the latest and greatest, version 2.0 comes out a week later with better, cooler features.

The rumor mill on the Hero 8 is saying 4k 120fps. That's pretty incredible if there's a memory card large/fast enough to handle that much data. (that isn't $200 itself)

Hoping there's some gains made on stabilization too. Hypersmooth is pretty good, but room for improvement. Would LOVE to have the camera do what the Revel Arc was attempting with the auto rotation field of view.
We'll see in a couple weeks.

So GoPro Hero Max also released.

This could have some very cool applications for kiting. The auto horizon leveling and stabilization are pretty impressive.
(Revel Arc's last coffin nail)

What's not so impressive is the 5m waterproofing and no option for a case. (as of now)

BTW GoPro has their trade in $100 credit program on right now. You can ship them any clunker originally valued over $99 and they'll give you that off the price of a Hero 8 or 7. I did it. Now waiting on them to ship.

Shot with the new GoPro 8.

Biggest complaint is the door, there is a single door for everything, battery, memory card, and USB. It fall off every time it is opened.

Looks good Rogue!

I sold my 7 to get the 8 basically for the stabilization. The YouTube comparison vids really show an improvement.

Are you using yours with a super suit? I bought the GoPro floaty and mouth mount so hoping the 8 is waterproof enough without it.

yup.

we have a gopro max.... the horizon level function in "hero mode" makes the noir matter quark completely obsolete.

Have you actually tried it yet? So far I have not seen footage of the max in hero mode on a line mount.

nope.
just paired it to the app (and played it in hand)....and left it to charge fully overnight.

looks like it flips horizon at 180 degrees (when upside down)

but it kept horizon no matter how i shook or held it (until upside down..then it flips the horizon)

i'm no A/V expert...but i was impressed.

The processing with the Max looks amazingly easy and fast in the GoPro video. How has your processing experience been with the Max?
