Hi Toby. If you mount the spherical lens protector the answer is yes, the GP Max has fogging issue. However letting the original lenses without any protection is the best way to avoid this problem. Unfortunately these lenses are not replaceble so be careful.

Impossible , there is no waterproof housing surrounding the lens.

Yes true, GoPro 6 and 7 and 8 are waterproof and no housing like the earlier models, so no fogging issues

I have the Hero 7 and while the video quality is excellent and Hypersmooth functionality is a game changer, the user experience is incredibly painful. Freezing screens and lagging response on the touchscreen is part of the user experience every time. The OS is painfully glitchy. Many times I've been out kiting, came in and found the camera totally frozen and stuck on record - with nothing saved to the memory card.

Can anyone tell me if the new Hero 8 is improved in terms of the OS and user experience? Is it still buggy? Does it lag or freeze on you?

Still buggy and freezes. It's still the same hardware inside the camera. The 8 is basically updated firmware inside a downgraded shell.

The OS is slightly improved on the 8 and some stuff is a little bit more intuitive, but otherwise still mostly not a big improvement. The Phone app and PC Software are still horribly bad.

Agreed for the most part. Buggy, unresponsive app, shit battery life, and not a very intuitive interface. Went on a boat dive with some buddies today. My 8 powered off right away and never turned back on until home, while one buddy used his 8 at 60+ feet and captured some incredible shark footage. So..... Results may vary.

The good - Hypersmooth 2.0 is great. Really makes typical handheld footage watchable and cinematic.
I had the Hero 7 last year and I do feel like the video quality is better now too.

So while waiting for wind here, I was playing with the auto horizon function in the app.

You can do the auto horizon in 1080, 30, Boost wide and Superwide view. 60fps,no bueno. Now something REALLY cool is while IN the app turning on the auto horizon setting, (per clip) there is also a VIEW setting. So you can alter the screen ratio (16:9, 4:3, etc) regardless of what resolution you shot it in.
This can be beneficial for the line mount footage if you want to get more of the rider or more of the landscape in the frame.

HP7 Max and Fusion can all fog if stored in a humid environment then used in cold water. It’s less than with the case but not zero.

Hmmm, I have used the Hero 6 for years now, and it has never failed - so odd if there are so many quirks in the newer models?

Use a remote almost always, but if battery is dead I sometimes just start the cam before going out, till it runs out.

Or is it when using the touch screen there are quirks only?
