Technique and advice for a downwind race

Hello all,
I'm going to participate in my first downwind race soon and was wondering if anyone has any pointers aside from the obvious.

Rig big!

You can hold more kite if your headed off the wind. If you rig the way you regularly would you’ll be under powered when you try to go deep downwind.
