+1 for boots they always stink ( I use about dryer now no stink) but we have about 10 wetsuits here . Either Mystic or NP none smell much at all . In fact we keep them in the wardrobe with cloths when not in use . Mystic we have old and new (2019) nothing noticeable there

Isn't it just personal, whether you like or hate the neoprene smell?
I have had so many different brands of wetsuits in the 40 years of surfing.
And never one that was, or got, a stinking smell.
Only rinse in the shower on rare occasions if coming home in the suit being cold, otherwise never.
Sometimes I dry the suit(s) when home, but mostly not as only a little wet.
Life's too short wasting time on this, especially if out every day for periods.
I havent had any of these stink.
Also many GUL suits same brand as the OP.
That's why I think it's personal and nothing but that
I love the odour of a wetsuit
Wetshoes/boots though, can sometimes stink, don't know why when the wetsuits don't for most of us, is it different materials or something from our feet?
Or is it because all our sweat ends up down there?
Peter
New wetsuits....nothing to do with body hygiene ...

My point is, I have never had a new wetsuit that did not smell good
So either it IS personal liking or not, or there are a few bad apples that stink (what most of us would think of as "stink")
I have been lucky not to run across these, if the latter is the case, bad apples and not personal liking.

I was thinking this was a trolling expedition but a google search finds many more examples from both the surfing and scuba community for many brands going back years and years to pre 2008 at least so it’s not something new . I have never experienced it. There are some funny stories tho where people were pulled by the law wondering about the smell ! Crazy

Weird, never had this with my Mystic suits but never had the cheaper ones so can't comment other than we've never noticed this with our Mystic rental suits either. Wetsuit boots however are a different story!

You weirdos...
My two cents on this: I have a mixed bag of suits, boots and crash vests. I've seen no clear pattern, sometimes it just stinks. My homegrown findings: if it really stinks you need to do the vinegar rinse earlier mentioned, but for daily maintenance I've found Rip Curl's Pis Off works the best. Plus the suit gets soft and flexy using Pis Off. I buy it in 3 liter "jerri cans". And wile I'm at it, I want to mention my 30 years old Okespor boots. Never ever any smell and still works great. Amazing quality.

I dry my suits using a hanger with a fan built in so they are dried in 12 hours after each use. They still smell a little bit, old man/dad stench. I never put wet wetsuits in my car because your car sticks as well. Same for booties and cloves, dried with a blower apparatus.

I have a Mystic 4/5 wetsuit that has smelled since it was new. It was practically new when the military border guards in Baja kept accusing me of having marijuana in my truck. They made me unload the truck until I got to the wetsuit, they smelled it and said that was what was smelling and let me go.
I have another wetsuit brand 3/2 and it doesn’t smell.

Alot of you are missing the point. It's not about a used wetsuit smelling due to bacteria or w/e.
It's new lower quality suits that smell like chemicals/weed/neoprene/whatever. And when i say smell, i don't mean you smell something when you directly bury your nose in the fabric.
You can leave them in the back corner of a room and immediately get hit by it when you walk in the door.
Regarding mystic, their cheaper suits are made in china and the more expensive ones in thailand.
