How often do you inspect your gear on a kiteshop?

Postby lucas33 » Fri Oct 04, 2019 10:07 pm

I experienced two times in two weeks, my Cabrinha Drifter first tear in a half last week during a normal water drop. And this week my 2017 Cabrinha bar, broke a middle line I was 1000m from the coast...

So, How often do you inspect your gear on a kite shop? There is a recommended time to do so?

I am also concern about my fireball connection, anyone knows how long does it last?

Just my opinion.....I see many kiters slamming their kites into the water. Some learning. Some misjudging a jump etc. Logic tells me that this is not good for a kite. Bound to split at some point. If the kite is still new or still super crispy I would discuss with the shop. As for the lines, I regularly inspect for wear and wash thoroughly after each use. Never had a line issue and been using their bars since 2008.

The problem is that it was totally unexpected for me, my kite still super crispy and the bars lines look great, both I take regular care of, always wash after using and letting dry in shadow. How could I prevent that from happening? Or it's just bad luck?

were you jumping 1000m off the coast when you broke your line?

Before starting the downwind yes, but while the downwind no. We needed to get 1km off the coast to avoid wind shadow

When I was back home in Feb, there were several cases of Cab kites ripping in half. From what I saw, they were all "deserved" ie. dropping in big surf, tomahawked while over-powered with a heavy rider etc...

I've had a bit of trouble with 2017 and 2018 bars: the metal stopper shredded a front line, the main line wasn't spliced properly, and then the cleat chewed up the trim line. The front line snapped at the peak of a jump, and the other two snapped while loading up to send it. They were all fairly new and not heavily used.

Bit of bad luck, maybe a bad batch.

My Ozone Cat split in half, 8m, was not a big crash.
FS Boost LE exploded. On the ground.

It happens. Nothing worse than buying a new kite, and 13 months latter, bang!

Im pretty anal with my bar, wash it like a ocd kid. Recently changed my middle lines near the bar since I saw tear at one spot. Got the spare lines for free from my dealer.

I noticed that sandy beaches with shells can cause tear very fast. If you drag dem under your kite for example.

Some people say you should have a newer bar for high winds and low wind session your old bar that is starting to count it last days 😎

Any line overheated by unknown heat source would snap like this.

Simple test: get this broken piece, heat it with a hair dryer for a min or two on high, and thats it. It will snap under load.
