Anyone swap their bar colors around?

Postby gator1 » Wed Oct 09, 2019 1:51 am

My bar is black on the right and yellow/orange on the left. After a big wipeout, and I'm disorientated and the kite has crashed, I always find is confusing when I reach out with my right hand to find the black part of the bar which is underwater and hard to find. I always seem to grab the bright part first then have to remind myself that black is on the right.

It seems more intuitive to change the right side of the bar to the bright colored section.

Anyone swap their default bar colors around?

One first things i tell students is colours dont matter what matters is that everything is the same length.... so whatever you do on one side of kite make sure its done same on the other...

Im curious how long youve been kiting and not realised this?

What do you think the people with equipment that doesnt have different coloured pigtails do? Or the lines are all same colour?

Try to get used to regular colors. Kiters end up flying someone else's kite a surprising amount maybe you forgot your gear or were busy something happened or maybe you want to lend out your kite. If you are backwards from everyone else it's inconvenient because you have to swap the lines around to borrow the kite and then switch it again when you give it back. I don't care what the colors are I just want them to be the same as everyone else.

If you are one of those guys that never burrows gear never lends it never demos stuff then yeah go ahead and ride backwards from everyone else. I like to demo gear a lot so I can't be riding backwards.

That would keep your kite in the same spot at all time, not so useful advice.
When having troubles with the kite (eg tomahawking) you really need to know which side you should pull in a split second.

Have always had bright (white, yellow) on RIGHT side,on bar and floats, why?
White is right.
As myself and most are right handed so natural to want to use that hand first and easier to see brighter color.

A teacher telling students that bar color does not matter! :o
I would say when one picks up bar, and for that matter lays out line, that bar left, right color is most important!
I and all I know ALWAYS verify with color, setting up and after every bar spin!
And yes ALL my kite pig tails AND lines are color coded!

Just wrap coloured tape around the floats. I tend to look at the floats rather than the bar anyway.

I know what you mean though. The first click bar is light grey on one side and dark grey on the other and my new bar is blue and grey. I think one year North reversed the bar colours compared to previous years (2013 was white on the right and grey on the left and 2018 was white on the left and grey on the right) just to be really helpful.

Edit: I have repaired grip on old bars with cork handlebar tape. If the bar isn't too thick to start with you could wrap over the top of the existing grip and take it off when you sell it?

Your way more insightful than me,I don't have a clue what the issue is and no idea what the solutions being presented even mean! But hey , that's just me !
