Guys, look what i just received, never seen these before.
According to my dealer these straps are specially made as a replacement so they should be improved. I have to say I don't feel any difference in material and firmness at all, I'm very curious and time will tell.

Those might be the new 2022 straps. The difference should be in the piece that you slot into the exterior of the strap: It should be longer so more contact surface. I can’t believe that it would fix the problem but if they recognise the problem… maybe.

Well something happened because this issue wasn't so dominant in previous NTT straps and the system they use is being used for years...Hopefully they managed to up their game...

What's common between these 'double' straps and different from the NTT straps?
- Cabrinha H2O
- Core Union
- Naish Apex
- Slingshot Dually
- feel free to add others
Answer: 4 point attachment to the pad base.
Duotone NTT have a 3 point attachment and from what I've seen so far, it's always the single attachment breaking.
So is it an intrinsic design fault or a material issue? The material has to be soft, as it needs to be stitched through to avoid using velcro straps as in the above mentioned models.
NTT fastening system is cool as it collects little to no sand, unlike the velcro straps (just done cleaning mine), but breaking a strap can be dangerous. 2 years ago my strap opened (entirely my fault) and I ended up with a broken toe and luckily only 2 months off the water.
For the record, North Flex bindings also have a 3 point attachment. Anyone broke one yet?

I don't see much difference in the part that's breaking, shame on them if they didn't solve the issue.
At least they admit that there are some cost constraints

Duotone's answer to me about the strength improvement for the 2022 model;
''We have changed the plastic of the straps. This will increase the strength of the attachment points from the strap to the baseplate.''

So thats the same answer as the previous years.
Also pretty conveniently its not something you can check as a user unless it really feels different to the touch which I doubt.
I am guessing they are fine with a % of returned straps because molds are expensive to make but printing a few extra for warranty claims is super cheap.
Just very shitty behavior because someone is going to break an ankle/toe/leg sooner or later.

For those of us who notoriously go huge and or land hot, it may eventually end in a severely broken ankle when the binding breaks on landing, foot comes out and the momentum of the board spins the other ankle 360 degrees.
I just noticed the same thing happened to mine and what is the lesson here? For me it is to closely check the bindings before every session and get a replacement when it happens again. My local shop was more than happy to warranty the binding.

Got my second set of straps broken. Same issue. Will see if they will warrant the straps as first pair was bought almost 2 years ago. They broke after almost two years of use. Not the replacement ones broke after not even a year. I hope duotone warranty will be as good as always. However, they should address the issue. It is bloody dangerous!

this is a known problem to duotone, if in the warranty still you could replace it.
