I lost one w/ the original sport band.
Got a bit of sunscreen and came off in a wipeout. I ended up getting a band with a buckle on it and it has been fine outside a wetsuit - just make sure the end of the strap is safely in the loop and doesn't slide out.

I use the original but tie the two end together using a square knot

I have the Samsung Galaxy watch, so I can't comment about the Apple watch or its band. I've been very happy with the band on MY watch, but have worried about it breaking or coming loose in a hard crash. Years ago when I used to dive a lot and had an expensive dive watch, I got an aftermarket watchband that actually doubled back on itself somehow. That way, if one side broke (or one side's pin released from the watch itself), it would still stay on, albeit with one side tipped up. Long enough for you to notice and get it in hand or back to the boat. Maybe check with a dive shop to see if they have something like that that would work with the Apple Watch? Good luck and I'm interested to hear what you figure out!

Cheers,
SENDIT!

I have the velcro band and it's awesome, even if the velcro comes undone it still is a big loop and won't just fall off, although I've never had the velcro come undone and I've surfed/kited/lived with it for a few years now.

My brother in law has the CarterJet brand NATO style band from amazon (~$25) and he swears by it. Very secure and looks good also. He surfs every day and no problems.

kiting with it for more than 1 year. works very well. super light, easy to put on and even when the velcro opens the whatch will stay on your wrist.
to prevent any accidental catching and opening of the end of the band use an appropriately sized O ring.
by far the most comfortable, safe and cheap Iwatch / kitesurf solution.

I went with this NATO style band, no issues, and I actually had some pretty significant crashes with it already.

why don't people search first?

I did, but if you notice almost everyone has it on under their wetsuit. I'm kiting mostly not in a wetsuit.
Nicely put in his place.

Are you supposed to cut out the hole to match the shape of your watch? Or how does it work with the hole?

What a weird post lol. Especially after there's been a couple days.
