Duotone Pro Fish

Anyone try this board yet??? Looks almost as big as Nugget but higher performance. I am looking for a light wind ,small mushy wave board, to compliment my Vadar..

As a B&M/Duotone employee I am obviously biased but a few thoughts for those interested...

The Pro Fish is not a Nugget replacement. The Nugget was (and still is) great for light wind and making the most of small, shitty conditions, but when you get in any reasonable wind or waves the board can become unmanageable. It seems to me that with the rise in popularity of foil boards the Nugget concept has become obsolete. The Pro Fish is an entirely different project that happens to be launching the year the Nugget is removed from the lineup.

For me here in the Gorge I generally like to have two surfboards. The stubby Whip or Pro Voke was really well balanced for strapless airs and for a slightly looser feel on the waves, but I liked to have a WAM or Pro session in my quiver for my style of wave riding... I like the extra drive and the performance of a more traditional surf shape on the waves.

Therefore I was really excited when I saw the fish. To this non-professional, the stubby shape of the Fish feels just as balanced in the air as the Whip, and I was immediately completely comfortable throwing strapless airs on it. When I pointed it down the face of the wave I was really really impressed with how quick and tight the board can carve. Here in the gorge, with windswell that generally doesn't get above head-high and never really breaks with any real power I love the way this board performs... While the Whip and even the WAM like to draw out wider radius turns, the harder you lean into a carve on the Pro Fish the quicker it comes around. It's great for staying in the right spot on the waves here and I'd bet it would be perfect to stay in the pocket and get vertical on better waves.

The only downside I can see at this point is my guess that in bigger, heavier barreling type waves the Pro Fish might not be as stable at speed, it could get squirrely at high speeds, and in those conditions you'd definitely be better off on a WAM or ideally a Pro Session.

We had the Pro Fish in several demo events, both with consumers and the AWSI trade show and it's been the show stealer of the booth. I'd highly recommend you give it a shot, and if anyone else has any feedback on this shape please feel free to chime in.

Super sweet looking shape for less than real waves.

If hydrofoils were not so great, I'd want one for around here.

Whhaaatttt they killed the Nugget?? Not everyone wants to foil...
I actually wanted to upgrade my nugget. Its such a popular and fun board for light wind! Guess I'll have to keep it.

@Dan-at-Duotone, thanks for the info about the Pro Fish. I am very interested in getting one. Not sure about the size thou. I am 84kg and 186cm tall. Which one would you suggest to me between 5'5'' and 5'2''.
5'5'' seems too big with a lot of volume.

@pgzers...
Really hard to recommend sizes... so much depends on your personal style/conditions/expectations of the board and more.
That said, I agree with your thoughts... The 5'5" is very voluminous. I'm 90kg and 193cm and the 5'2" feels much better to me, but then again I generally ride in high winds and prefer smaller boards.

In short: unless you really want it as your lightwind weapon I'd definitely recommend the 5'2"
