Pump lube

I am a pump maniac, must be clean and go in and out freely, but providing good pressure, kinda like something else
I always use a filter, keep in a sack always when not pumping to protect.
I have tried MANY different O ring, shaft lubes, I will not mention to not sway.
What do you use and why please?

Cooking oil. Every B&B, hostel and hotel has it.

Medium viscosity ( 1,000 CSt ) silicone oil ; lubricates plastics & elastomers well, assists with sealing between moving surfaces, totally benign to pump materials.

Get some air tools oil. Good for seals and safe for bladders. Splash of that stuff under the piston along with an occasional few drops on the shaft and your pumps will last for ages.

Only silicon based oil or vaseline - every other oil made seals eventually swell and pump will "seize"

Basicaly
Almost all rubber swell from mineral based oil /also from plant/ only silicone rubber wont. Silicone rubber swell from silicone oil.
In industry this is crucial for compatibility - working fluid vs seals etc...

Btw every plant cooking oil will polymerize very fast - that why it can be use for lubricating only for short time. In fact cooking oil is used as poor man loctite or "archeo" loctite in threads to secure threads exactly because of this

After cleaning lubricate with white lithium grease spray.

Silicone grease is the best. Petroleum based greases tend to attract sand, while like stated above organic greases oxidize. Lithium grease also tends to attract sand more than silicone grease. I don't think the actual brand matters that much.

Vaseline. Cheap and never had an issue. I also keep in a bag and NEVER leave just strewn about on the beach.

Silicon lubricant is safe to use. It is inexpensive and commonly available in either spray or grease form.

Many other lubricants like cooking oil, petroleum products, vaseline, suntan lotion, lithium grease, hair conditioner, etc. work temporarily but may soon gum things up or may degrade the O ring seals.

Use only lubricants rated for O rings.. and the most commonly available ones are silicon based. Most hardware stores, automotive stores or bicycle stores have the right stuff.
