Strapless board for small waves and light wind.

Postby Crissssssss » Thu Nov 14, 2019 5:36 pm

Hey, I been using a firewire 5.6”x19.4” 28L with the quad fin set up for a while now, the board is super fun when the wind gets stronger but the low end is not really that good. I’m 85kg and 6.1”. What board are you guys using for the light days? Could the rocker line be affecting the low end of the board? That’s the only surfboard I have so I don’t really now if it has too much rocker or not.

Hard rails far forward really help surfboards "edge" upwind when the flow over the fins (water speed) is low.

A flat rocker can't make up for soft rounded rails at low speed.

But too much rocker can negate hard rails.

I use the Naish skater and the BRM Paipo in light wind and small waves.

Rocker definitely influences the low end. Same with tail shapes and rail shape. Pintails aren't the best at low end either so there are a few things going against this shape...looks like a fun board tho.
Take a look the Naish Skater. That type of shape is good for lower end.
Now just from the top it is hard to see how much rocker there is, the hips are pretty low tho so that not bad. Have you tried to move forward on the board? I obviously don't know how much you've ridden, so this might be pointless, but you have to ride the board very different in light wind.

How light are you trying to go?

That’s a better photo of the rocker line.
