I’m on Maui, I’ve spent a lot of time here enjoying windy kite beach

I think there’s something many people simply don’t understand - when you pass closely, the downwind kiter should lower their kite!!! If you do that then 2 riders can pass closely & don’t have to break off their tack.

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve passed someone upwind & they have their kite at 11:00. I think people just don’t know.

Maybe try the same? Go downwind of them and keep your kite superhigh?
Or when you're upwind, keep your kite so low that they cannot pass under it?

A bit dangerous though, since people who keep their kites in the wrong places are usually beginners.

Best to just avoid them. Found myself getting frustrated in Lefkada due to the same.

No waving or shouting made a difference to this entitled individual. It made for a bad season.

Next time just got way offshore (not miles but out of the crowds) and had a much happier time.

Won’t work for every situation but if I can get upwind quick, happy days.

Wonder if its locals or visitors?

At my beach a handful of kiters are making the scene seem dangerous to me. People jump and do backrolls upwind or close to you, not give way to starboard tack when on the same heading, short tack in front of you when you are coming in and they are going out so you can't jump.

I've been known to give their kite a little whack in the air... gotta have the skills to do it, but they quickly learn. Play chicken with the kooks / Guys.

Yup, love the cold water spots. Snow, even in world class locations, still beats some tropical s--t hole with unfriendly locals and worrying about your vehicle/gear.

Thanks for helping "educate" other kiters. It really has helped when I have done the same at my spots. I have not yet found one of these kooks that can't be taught with just one lesson experience. "Talking to them", on the other hand, has a much lower success rate.
