Any soundfront property gets you access to water and you can inflate and launch from most places.
The valuable ones have a green lawn to inflate and launch from and there are very few of those, due to environmental regulations - even within town limits you can’t landscape the swamps.

Staying at Real or KHK gets you a nice lawn to launch and land, while not most convenient entry to water.

Hey, Dave. April is a great month for kiting on Hatteras Island.

What are you looking for? There are lots of sound front rentals, from single bedrooms to 12+ bedrooms.

If you just want a bedroom with sound access, I'd recommend calling about the condos at Kitty Hawk Kites, which are 3-bedrooms but can be partitioned to a single bedroom rental if that's what you want. At KHK, you'll get a grassy soundfront launch, as per previous post, with air compressors, assisted launches, and onsite pool, restaurant, shop, etc. Real would be a similar option.

If you're coming with a group and want a large, multi-bedroom rental, there are options in Wind Over Waves in the Tri-Villages or Kinnakeet Shores in Avon. Best to check with AirBnB, VRBO and the local rental companies (Hatteras Realty, Midgett Realty, etc.) for those. There are many other options.

Personally, I like Avon for it's central location on the island. In April, you will likely get SW wind as well as N, NE, NW wind. In Avon, SW, W, or NW wind will be best, but you'll want to drive to Frisco for NE or E wind (for sound riding), or move to oceanside. For SE wind, the best spot is Jockey's Ridge in the Nags Head area. If you are in Avon, you'll be able to access all areas without driving too far.

Have fun, and see you on the water in April. :thumb:

Go on google earth and you can scope out all the sound side properties, spend an hour or so and you'll become familiar with all the houses. Rental companies have good info also.
