New Years Day is the busiest beach day in South Africa, so the main beaches were so packed with people it seemed unreasonable to launch kites, so most folk kiting in town went to one of the five Sunset Beach access points, or Dolphin, or north on Bloubergstrand. The wind only settled in a little later, so I went to Dolphin around 3 and rode 7m Pivot and TT till I split that beloved 2016 kite in half tomahawking it after a big jump where I got too far ahead of the kite on landing and it fell out of the sky and then the lines snapped tight at the last second. So went to 5.5m Nomad and strapless surfboard, wow is that kite fast turning! It's an old-school six-strut kite with pulleys connecting the bridle and back lines, but flies just fine. I think 10 years old now, I got it second hand here. So now spending the evening on Gumtree and Kitehub shopping for a used 7m Pivot, as Paul Lagesse at Second Wind Sails who can fix mine is away till January 12, and none of the shop websites show any used Pivots for sale. Think I found one.
Hey you can aslo contact the guyes form Ullman for repairs ,

Thanks downsouth, I'll look into it. Already bought a 2015 7m Pivot yesterday too.

So today was the end of a fantastic week of SEasters, and it went out with a bit of a whimper. The wind barely filled in late, so we went to Sunset Beach around 5PM, but it really sucks to ride there, there are big holes in the wind and it is side-off, and there are tons of European windsurfers who get pissed off at the kiters. So after trying to ride there for a while two of us decided on a downwinder to Kite Beach, and as is often the case, the section between the north end of Sunset Beach and Dolphin Beach was very nice, with clean but small waves to play on with strapless surfboard and 9m Pivot. Dolphin Beach was pretty crowded by the time we got there, and so we scooted down to Kite Beach around 7. Nice way to end this week. Anyone who came here for only the last week for the first time will think this is the most amazing place to kite, which it is, but anyone coming here next week will have their work cut out for them finding good places to kite with westerlies mixed in with a couple of SEasters. I have family arriving so will be otherwise occupied most of the time.

Two days of westerlies gave way to a SEaster again today. I took my daughter to Langebaan for a lesson as she is just getting comfortable riding. It was not too crowded at Shark Bay to begin with and we rode 12m and then 9m, but by then it was getting crowded with beginners, so we quit around 2. Back in town the wind had filled in and I got a quick downwinder on 7m and surfboard from Milnerton lighthouse to Kite beach from 5-6PM. The waves were amazing up at Milnerton and lots of windsurfers were taking advantage of them.

it was light winds yesterday, 18 knots Kevin was carving and turning some nice waves and some trademark jumps nothing too high. Kite looked smooth and turned well.

Looks "Pivoty" to me! Three strut, shark teeth stabilizers on trailing edge, similar shape as the interloper true Pivot.

The second wave of the bigger Cape-to-Rio yachts started their race today, amoungst them two of the modern foiling trimarans, and someone on a foil board was mixing it up with them in the medium strength SW breeze. Wonder if it was Frank?

Rest of this week promises more SEasterlies, so perhaps we will see more of Kevin on his new kites, although the strongest winds will be at Witsands and I'm unlikely to get down there.
