F-One Mitu or Shadow?

Postby waitz » Tue Dec 24, 2019 9:54 am

I just sold my 5'10 Mitu from 2014. I am 72kg, and as I became a bit more experienced, I felt the board became to big.
I would like to replace it, so I am looking into a new Mitu or the Shadow.

I kitesurf mostly in smallish-medium waves in Holland, then secondly on holidays in places like Cape Town, North Portugal and Fuerteventura.
I like a board that is stable in speed, playful and easy to handle. I am not so into freestyle.

Any recommendations between the two, and if so, which size is actually good?

Thanks for input.

Hi,
The 5'10 was very likely too big for you, probably got going early, but more than enough planing area when things got fast ?
I weigh 75K and am 175 tall, I have the Mitu Carbon 5'8, very stable and cuts across big chop, turns faster than I can, and the length is a help on big wave faces, But! I wish I had bought a 5'6 or 5'4, why? for general playing around, and hope it might feel livelier. and even lighter?
Maybe you should get a 5'4, I imagine the conditions we ride in are quite similar, and because of that I would stay with the Mitu. The review of the Shadow suggests it is more orientated towards smooth wave faces and carving, which may be great when on holiday in perfect conditions,
But I notice in your profile you have a "Slice", so maybe that works on the average play around days, and the Shadow for the smoothed out perfect conditions?

Two boards I know well, considering the waves you ride most of the time I would go for Mitu 5'6''.

waitz, are you riding with straps or not?

Might mean a bit for size

Noticed you ride waves in Holland, and Capetown, meaning conditions very similar to what we have around here in Denmark (and often going to CT), so might be you like most of us prefer strapped waveboards :naughty:

Personal liking indeed, but just regarding the sizing, it might be good to know.

I prefer strapless in general, but when I have been in Cape Town with bigger waves, I feel more secure with straps.

Yeah, that's a thought I also have, so that I don't have 2 boards that overlap too much... Although I'm curious how the Shadow is in rough choppy conditions also.
