Gear they can sell after season might be worth 5k
Travel expenses top rider 10k
Plus 20k...so rider costs 35 k ? That’s a lot of money already for a brand.

Plus top rider makes some prize money..
Maybe 50 k, not that’s maybe top 5 riders.

Way to little for the risk. Should be way more.

But they could push airstyle and do a bigger show with less risk...their choice!

Totally agree. The level of risk especially with the KOTA type events is very high. I read that about 150,000 kites are sold per year and the size of the industry is about 250 million dollars. If the top 10 riders are only getting 35k each then that is about 350,000 or 0.14% of the total revenue for the industry. I think the top guys should be getting more, especially if they are involved in R&D of equipment as well as pushing the boundaries of the sport.

Most radical times for kiteboarding will be after 10-20 years when kitedrones and e-foils will arrive massively for masses. Than will be total drop of kites and bars sales. With kitedrones you barely can do 30m controlable jumps, still masses definitely will choose kitedrones for easiness and always possibility to kite in no enough wind (what is most common in lot of spors) . Still drones will be produced by non kiting companies as only kitedrone control units and software will be probably made by kite brands. So, our today kites will be old type thing for smaller group of kiting people. Than will be big drop for top rider earnings even more.
+ First will be demand of kitedrones for those who foiling because in foiling you need not so much drag power comparing to TT. Probably will be even more bigger split between foiling and TTboarding. Big boosing and freestyle of course will be forever but with less demand i think fot equipment sales as today. Plus what we see in Usa, singapure and some other countries that kiteboarding in spors are usually restricted or in general already forbidden, if this tendency will last more and more than needs of kites will be even less.
+Kite brands must do more serious lobism for cancellation of kiting restrictions in spots.

I also think, we don't have to wait to long before foils will be pulled by drones...

Kite pros are part of the marketing costs of the business, so finally it is normal kiters who paid for them in the prices of kites. Other possibility is to do it like Best did and then do a bankrupt.

Problem is kite industry is quite small and kiting is a niche sport. IDK how much pro's are paid or much they should be paid but it is clear they get other benefits than just a paycheck. You can't be a pro for long time so it is not a life time career, at least in free style or big air.

Kite drones are very silly idea: expensive, dangerous, noisy, fragile and not using wind which is the essence of our sport.

We're not in it for the kiting, we're in it for moving on the water. A kite just gets in the way of that and you'll have better options like a drone in the future.

Sailing industry will collapse too I've been told, when industrial strenght drones will be commonplace.
