Practise landing loops

Postby kajtarn74 » Sat Jan 04, 2020 10:43 am

Im practising landing loops with the backhand. After apex i send the kite forward with my fronthand and then pull with my backhand before landing.
I have a problem. I often get a small rotation forward so i end up landing on my side or on my back.
Does anyone have a tip how i can try to correct this balancing problem?

Are you downloop transitioning? If so you just need to make sure you point your board downwind to deal with the extra power of the downloop compared to a normal transition.

In my book, loops with the front hand are downloops and with the back hand are kiteloops. Not if you start looping on the way up or down.

Sounds like you are describing a helicopter / kiteloop landing where the pull is coming from the side or even behind you. Make sure you are facing the pull of the kite or else you get indeed yanked off axis.

No transition. Im riding to the left and after landing the jump i want to ride away to the left

Hard to say. I only did a handful of heli/downloop landings yet. Are you moving your head around weirdly during it? Usually where your head is pointing is also where the body goes.

If you’re sending the kite forward it’s a heliloop not a kiteloop surely?

I agree with Exal......head position could be throwing you off balance. Your kite movement sounds good: move kite forward (fronthand) at or just after apex to catch your descent; then kiteloop with backhand through descent and into your landing. If you are turning your head to the right to watch the kiteloop, that movement could cause your body to rotate forward on landing. Try to keep your head focused more to your left (direction of travel) and see if that helps.

I’m not sure we’ve established which way the kite is looping yet....

Also, when pulling with your front hand make sure you get the kite past 12 so when you pull the back hand for the landing loop the kite crosses back over 12. And when you go to pull with the back hand hard in the air make sure you are only pulling with your arms. As you go to pull hard you might be using to much body twist.
