I steal lots of stuff from beaches, it’s easy. I help someone launch and once I know they are on the water I just go take their stuff. Kiters are so dumb.😳😱😄👍👋

Am always amazed at how the place fills up with bags and boards and phones and wallets and keys etc on kite days. We are a trusting bunch. There is definitely a lot of reliance on one another and safety in enough numbers that see one or two kiters left to watch over everyone's stuff while they are out!

Even before foiling, I would sometimes be the only one at the launch and I just couldn't handle riding with anything of value left at the launch. For a long time I left just the kite bag and pump. One day I got back to the launch and two guys were just about to throw down over a misunderstanding over my kite bag. One guy is dressing the other guy down (who has his son there) about setting a shit example, steeling someone's stuff. Not sure they were actually looking to steal anything, but it was heated. Neither were kiters. Stopped leaving anything at the launch after that despite it being a decent trek back to the care.

One of the joys of foiling is tiny kites. I can generally pump my kite at or near the car and just walk to the launch with just the kite, bar, board and harness.

I've had a couple times where I've left a board on the beach and come in to see someone had moved it near their stuff as if it's theirs. I call people out for that shit, but I also use a black sharpie to put my name, phone # and email address on the bottom IN GIANT LETTERS. Recently I also used a box cutter to cut my initials into the board itself - somewhere discreet that isn't too obvious, but if needed I could prove it's mine.

I once had my lunch stolen from a remote beach in Scotland.... Got in from my session to find some bastard had pulled my meticulously made picnic out of my kite bag, half-eaten it and throw the rest in the sand. I was really pissed off until later, when reviewing some GoPro photos I saw 20 seagulls going at it for most of my session!

Over time I've dialed in exactly what I am willing to leave on the beach. Kite bag and sandals, maybe a hat. Had a bag of stuff stolen long time ago, fool me once...

I live an hour inland from the sea and used to drive a distinctive pick up. Must have been followed home after a session one day, as that night my garage was robbed. They took 3 boards, 4 kites, 2 bars, wetsuits, spare lines and fins and even wax, but left all the tools, bikes, garden tools etc

So was definitely a kiter as they knew where I lived and what to take, the thing that made me angry was knowing I’d been followed.
