Chris Calthrop RIP

Postby UKSurf » Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:16 pm

Just came across some Sad news that one of the pioneers of Kitesurfing (especially in the UK) died late last year from illness. I remember reading about his Channel crossing with Jason Furness and Andy Preston (other Pioneers in the UK) in the early 2000s when I first tried kitesurfing. At the time it seemed incredible that someone could cross the channel on a kite and surfboard. There were pictures of the riders doing jumps mid channel over the support boat and it really looked like something from out of this world.

RIP

Ah no. I interviewed him for my website back in 1999/2000? about kiting jaws on a flexifoil blade.. what an epic feat!

Sad. Rip.

This is sad news. Chris was a big inspiration for me when I first started kitsurfing in the UK.

Really sad to hear he has passed.

He was an inspirational guy, an original thinker and a real individualist. Many of us who were kiting in the early years will miss him. I will think of him when I next fly my Flexifoil Blades.
